Our Story

Grace Diprose, the founder of Sileco, started the idea of a reusable silicone bag after an international trip. As a frequent traveller, she uses a plastic Ziploc bag to keep small personal items inside her handbag. It was an easy-to-clean solution for lippies, hair bands, hand cream, sunscreen and sanitizer. A typical cosmetic bag can be challenging to clean when makeup pigments tend to spill out and stain. Like many people, she was never bothered scrubbing the mascara stain in the fabric before they could so easily get their hands on a new one. On the other hand, a plastic Ziploc bag isn't as robust and always goes manky and ready for the bin after a few uses.

As a frequent traveller, she uses a plastic Ziploc bag to keep small personal items inside her handbag. It was an easy-to-clean solution for lippies, hair bands, hand cream, sunscreen and sanitizer. A typical cosmetic bag isn't always easy to clean when all the makeup spills out. Like many people, she was never bothered scrubbing the mascara stain in the fabric before they could so easily get their hands on a new one. On the other hand, a plastic Ziploc bag isn't as robust and always goes manky and ready for the bin after a few uses.

It was a lightning moment, Grace started thinking why there wasn't a better solution for people to store things with them on the go. A volumized design with a good seal capable of storing liquids without leaking.

More Consciousness, Less Waste

Besides travelling, a little closer to home, she realised how much plastic waste they created daily when they first moved into the apartment building out of a wasteland in Sydney west. Living in an 8th-floor apartment without a bin chute for the garbage meant taking the bin down the dumpster a few times a week was a lot of work.

"It's got me thinking about getting into the sustainable habit of reducing waste. Although I always reuse single-use Ziploc bags, I want to use a product made with safe materials to be reused repeatedly. "

Grace took the opportunity to develop a functional reusable solution to reduce single-use plastic - "It needs to be compact, light-weight and durable with a good seal. Being a minimalist, don't you love the idea of a versatile solution that caters to your basic needs whether you're staying homebound or on the go."

In 2020, Grace weathered the storm as an entrepreneur and launched Sileco during Covid-19 while embarking on a journey to become a mother. "Like any mother, I often think about my son's future. What are the good choices we could make, and how we can build a better world for him to step into."
